Plasticity and ductility of an anisotropic recrystallized AA2198 Al-Cu-Li alloy in T3 and T8 conditions during proportional and non-proportional loading paths: simulations and experiments

The anisotropic material behaviour of a recrystallized AA2198 Al-Cu-Li alloy in T3 and T8 conditions was assessed by proportional loading uniaxial-tension specimens rolling (L), transverse (T) diagonal (D) orientations. width longitudinal strains were measured to quantify plastic anisotropy. Notched-tension samples tested L T directions. showed weak anisotropy terms stress strain curves moderate anisotropy, consistent with its texture obtained EBSD. An Bron-Besson type model identified using this data base micro shear-only (SO) test. succeeded predicting the for tension-only (TO) non-proportional load path changes including 'shear tension' (ST) as well 'tension shear' (TS) tests. achieved newly designed cross shaped sample. It loaded one direction, unloaded subsequently orthogonal direction till fracture. average stretch fracture both alloys four point frame optical extensometer decreased 29 % 16 respectively experiment compared TO experiment. tests reduced 10 2198T3 hardly 2198T8 SO tests, but subject strong scatter. FE simulations local accumulated values that similar all histories condition (0.73 − 0.84). Lower found (0.45 0.73), despite enhanced macroscopic ductility tension. This attributed larger less localized zones, especially ST scatter necking damage development tension can affect localization, associated ductility, observed DIC fractography.
